VISIA analyzes eight complexion characteristics and scores each one against a large research database of people of your same age and skin type, so you see not just what your skin looks like, but how it compares and where it is heading.
Spots
Brown or red surface lesions such as freckles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and vascular marks, identified by their color and contrast against your surrounding skin tone.
Wrinkles
Furrows, folds, and creases, from fine expression lines to deeper set wrinkles. VISIA maps their location and depth, catching early lines before they are obvious in the mirror.
Texture
An analysis of skin smoothness. Raised areas such as congestion and dead surface cells are distinguished from depressions like open follicles, building a picture of overall evenness.
Pores
The circular surface openings of sweat and oil gland ducts, distinguished from spots by size and shape. Clusters of enlarged pores often signal oily or congestion-prone zones.
UV Spots
Sun damage hiding beneath the surface. UV spots form when melanin coagulates below the skin as a result of sun exposure and are generally invisible in normal light; UV photography reveals them before they surface.
Brown Spots
Subsurface pigment concentrations such as melasma, lentigines, and post-inflammatory pigmentation, visualized through Canfield's RBX technology, which isolates the brown color signature of melanin.
Red Areas
The vascular side of the same RBX analysis: acne-related inflammation, rosacea, broken capillaries, and spider veins, separated from pigment so each condition can be addressed on its own terms.
Porphyrins
Bacterial excretions that lodge in pores and contribute to breakouts. Porphyrins fluoresce under UV light, so VISIA can show how much acne-associated bacterial activity your skin is carrying right now.
How the Imaging Works
VISIA captures your face from three angles using controlled, repeatable lighting and positioning aids, then photographs it under three different lighting systems. Each one reveals a different layer of information.
High-resolution photography under daylight-balanced lighting documents your skin exactly as it appears: spots, visible wrinkles, texture, and pores.
Polarizing filters remove surface glare so the camera can see just beneath the surface, where RBX technology separates the unique color signatures of red (vascular) and brown (melanin) components. This is how redness is told apart from pigment, and rosacea from sun damage.
Ultraviolet imaging provides the most complete assessment of sun damage available, exposing UV spots that have not yet surfaced and capturing the fluorescence of porphyrins in your pores.
VISIA's software compares your results to a large database of people of the same age and skin type, assigns a percentile score for each characteristic, and calculates your TruSkin Age, a single number summarizing how your skin is aging relative to your peers.

Prepare
Please arrive with no makeup so the imaging captures your true baseline; makeup removal wipes are available in clinic if you need them. There are no needles, no lasers, and no discomfort at any point.
Capture
You rest your chin in the imaging booth while VISIA photographs the left, front, and right views of your face. Built-in positioning ensures the images are precisely repeatable at future sessions. The capture itself takes only minutes.
Review Together
Your aesthetician walks you through each analysis on screen: your spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV damage, pigment, redness, and porphyrin activity, with your percentile scores and TruSkin Age. You will see your skin in a way a mirror can never show you.
Your Personalized Plan
Based on your results, we build a prioritized treatment plan drawn from our full menu of facials, peels, microneedling, laser, RF, and medical services, along with home care guidance targeted to what your imaging actually shows.
Track Your Progress
Your images and scores are saved. At follow-up sessions, VISIA recaptures the identical views and compares them side by side, so the improvement from your treatments is measured, not assumed.
