Before & After Your Treatment

  • Hydrate very well for 24 to 48 hours before treatment. Monopolar radiofrequency results depend on tissue hydration, so this genuinely affects your outcome.
  • Discontinue retinoids and exfoliating acids 3 days prior.
  • Arrive without an active sunburn in the treatment area.
  • Disclose any implanted devices or metal in or near the treatment area during your consultation (see contraindications).
  • Recent injectables in the treatment area should be disclosed; RF is generally scheduled at least 2 to 4 weeks after filler.

Arrive with clean skin: no makeup, lotion, or sunscreen in the treatment area, and remove all jewelry and metal accessories. A grounding pad is placed on your body during monopolar RF treatment. Each shot delivers a brief pulse of deep warmth; you will feel progressive heating that stays within a comfortable range, and your provider adjusts energy based on your feedback throughout.

  • Mild redness, warmth, or a flushed appearance for a few hours is normal. Slight swelling or tenderness may last 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga, and other significant heat exposure for 48 hours.
  • Resume your normal skincare the next day, but keep it gentle for 24 hours and apply SPF 30+ daily.
  • Makeup may be applied the next day.
  • You may notice some immediate tightening from collagen contraction, but the real result builds gradually: new collagen forms over 2 to 3 months, with continued improvement to about 6 months.
  • Maintenance sessions (typically once or twice per year) help sustain results.
  • Pacemaker, defibrillator (ICD), or any implanted electronic device: This is an absolute contraindication for monopolar radiofrequency.
  • Metal implants or extensive metal dental work in the treatment path: Must be disclosed; treatment may be modified or deferred depending on location.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: RF treatment is deferred until after.
  • Active infection or open lesions in the treatment area: Treatment is postponed until resolved.
  • Known or suspected skin cancer in the treatment area: RF is not performed over suspicious lesions.
  • Autoimmune or connective tissue disease: Requires assessment before treatment.
  • Severe active acne in the treatment area: Heat may aggravate acutely inflamed skin; may require treatment first.
  • Recent dermal filler or other injectables in the area: RF is scheduled at an appropriate interval after injectables; please disclose timing.
