Before & After Your Treatment

  • If medically safe for you, avoid alcohol for 24 hours and minimize blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo) for 48 hours prior to reduce bruising. Never stop a prescription medication (including blood thinners) without approval from your prescribing physician.
  • Arrive with a clean face or be prepared to have makeup removed in the treatment area.
  • Eat a normal meal beforehand to avoid lightheadedness.
  • Plan around events: allow up to 14 days for full effect and any minor bruising to settle before an important occasion.
  • Disclose your full medical history and all medications to N.P. Charlotte Osler, including any previous neuromodulator treatments and how you responded.

Your appointment starts with a review of your goals and facial assessment with our nurse practitioner. The injections themselves take only minutes and feel like small pinches; ice or topical numbing is available but rarely needed. Small raised bumps at the injection points are normal and settle within 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours, and avoid facials, facial massage, and tight headwear on the area for 2 weeks.
  • Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment; skip the post-appointment nap.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and excessive heat for 24 hours.
  • Avoid makeup on the injection points for the rest of the day; if needed, apply very gently with clean tools.
  • Small bruises at injection points are possible and typically fade within a few days.
  • Results begin around day 3 to 5 and are complete by day 10 to 14. A complimentary review can be booked at 2 weeks if any adjustment is needed.
  • Effects typically last 3 to 4 months.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy: Neuromodulators are deferred.
  • Neuromuscular disorders: Conditions such as myasthenia gravis, ALS, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome are contraindications.
  • Allergy to botulinum toxin or formulation components: Includes human albumin; must be disclosed.
  • Active infection or skin condition at the injection sites: Treatment is postponed until resolved.
  • Certain antibiotics (aminoglycosides) and muscle-affecting medications: These can potentiate the toxin; full medication disclosure is required.
  • Unrealistic expectations or body dysmorphia concerns: Our NP will discuss achievable outcomes honestly during your mandatory consultation.
