Hyaluronic Acid Fillers restore lost volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance facial contours for a more youthful appearance. All filler treatments require a prior N.P. consultation with Charlotte Osler.

Before & After Your Treatment

  • If medically safe for you, avoid alcohol for 24 hours and minimize blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo) for 48 to 72 hours prior to reduce bruising and swelling. Never stop a prescription medication (including blood thinners) without approval from your prescribing physician.
  • Avoid dental work (including cleanings) for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment; dental procedures can seed bacteria that interact with filler.
  • Plan around events: allow 2 weeks for swelling and any bruising to fully settle.
  • Eat a normal meal beforehand and arrive with a clean face if possible.
  • Disclose your full medical history, all medications, and every previous filler treatment (including product and location) to N.P. Charlotte Osler.
  • If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), let us know when booking. An outbreak can be triggered by treatment, and a preventive antiviral prescription can be arranged through our nurse practitioner.

Your appointment begins with a facial assessment and treatment plan with our nurse practitioner. Topical numbing is applied, and the filler itself contains lidocaine, so discomfort is minimal. You will see an immediate change, keeping in mind that what you see on day 1 includes swelling; the refined result appears over the following 2 weeks.

  • Swelling, tenderness, firmness, and possible bruising in the treated area are normal for several days and can take up to 2 weeks to fully settle.
  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the area for 48 hours unless your NP gives you specific massage instructions.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, and avoid saunas, hot tubs, and extreme heat or cold for 72 hours.
  • Sleep slightly elevated and on your back the first night if possible.
  • Avoid makeup over injection points for 24 hours.
  • No dental work for 2 weeks after treatment.
  • URGENT: if you notice blanching (white patches), mottled or dusky discoloration, severe or increasing pain, or vision changes at any point, contact us immediately at (437) 383-8881. These can indicate a vascular complication that requires prompt treatment.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: Filler treatment is deferred.
  • Active infection anywhere in the body, including dental infection or sinusitis: Treatment is postponed until fully resolved.
  • Allergy to hyaluronic acid fillers or lidocaine: Must be disclosed before treatment.
  • Bleeding or clotting disorders: Requires assessment; may not be suitable.
  • Autoimmune or inflammatory conditions: Requires individual assessment by our NP.
  • Previous permanent or unknown filler in the same area: Layering over permanent filler carries added risk; full disclosure of treatment history is essential.
  • History of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis: Must be disclosed and assessed.
  • History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring: Requires assessment.

This guidance is general. Any specific instructions from your provider take precedence, and your medical history is reviewed before treatment. Questions before or after your appointment? Call us at (437) 383-8881.
